On Saturday 10 October 2026, Catholic Cemeteries + Crematoria (CCC) was delighted to welcome members of the Ethiopian Friendship & Co-Operative Idir for the dedication of a new Ethiopian burial lawn at Kemps Creek Memorial Park.
Set beside the park’s beautiful lake, the lawn encompasses 250 burial sites available to the Association, providing a special place for members of the Ethiopian community to honour their loved ones, preserve their cultural traditions and maintain connections for generations to come.
The gathering was held at The Pavilion event space, where guests enjoyed a delicious morning tea provided by Solace Catering, heard remarks from representatives of the Association including the Chairman Assefa Tarekegne and Secretary Girma Fesseha, and had their questions answered by Jason Kelly, Cemetery Manager at Kemps Creek. Afterwards, the community was led by the Chairman and Secretary on a walk-through of the Ethiopian burial area.
It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen relationships and celebrate the importance of community, cultural heritage and belonging. Thanks also to CCC’s John Dickinson, Community Engagement, for his involvement in bringing this special gathering together.
CCC is proud to support Sydney’s diverse faith and cultural communities by providing welcoming and meaningful places of remembrance that honour their traditions and values.
