The Archdiocese of Sydney and the Archdiocese of Canberra-Goulbourn are asking for support to petition the ACT Government to reverse a decision to take the ownership and management of Calvary Hospital, ACT away from Calvary Health Care and give the ownership to the government-run, non-faith-based Canberra Health Services.
Calvary Health Care operates hospitals and aged care facilities across the Australia and has been operating Calvary Hospital for over 40 years. It is trusted to provide quality health care to Canberrans regardless of their religious beliefs.
The ACT government prepared this bill in secret, with Calvary management and staff only finding out about it the day before it was tabled in parliament, and the government has scrapped the usual inquiry process, so that the bill could be law as soon as 31 May 2023.
