Catholic Cemeteries + Crematoria (CCC) welcomes planning reforms announced by the NSW Government to fast-track minor works in cemeteries across NSW. The amendments to the Transport and Infrastructure State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) will significantly improve the efficiency of cemetery operations, reducing unnecessary delays for low-impact projects and improvements.
These changes, which apply to minor works such as monuments, internal roads, and maintenance sheds, will allow CCC to focus more on providing high-quality services to the community without the delays caused by unnecessary red tape. The ability to proceed with routine operational activities without a DA will also enable CCC to allocate resources more effectively, ensuring continued care for the community’s cemeteries.

These changes will not only enhance operational efficiency but will also allow cemetery operators to prioritise the needs of families and communities. The reduced administrative burden will enable resources to be allocated toward service delivery and maintaining the peaceful, dignified environments that cemeteries represent.

The amendment maintains essential safeguards by ensuring that any major developments, such as expansions or changes to operational hours, will still require a Development Application (DA), ensuring responsible and community focused oversight.
