A Special Mass of Remembrance at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery
On Wednesday 12 November 2025, the Catholic community gathered at the Mary, Mother of Mercy Chapel at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery for the annual Deceased Clergy + Religious Memorial Mass – a deeply meaningful liturgy dedicated to honouring the priests, brothers, and religious sisters who devoted their lives to the service of God and His people.
Presided by Bishop Terry Brady, the Mass offered a moving moment of reflection and thanksgiving for the profound contributions made by countless clergy and religious across Sydney and beyond. Families, parishioners, community members, and clergy came together in prayer to remember those who have guided, inspired, and ministered throughout generations.
A Celebration of Faithful Service
The Deceased Clergy + Religious Mass is a significant tradition within the Catholic Cemeteries + Crematoria calendar. Each year, we pause to acknowledge the extraordinary commitment of those who lived lives of faith, compassion, and pastoral care. Their legacy continues to shape the spiritual life of our Church — in our parishes, schools, healthcare ministries, social services, and religious communities.
Bishop Brady’s homily invited all present to reflect on the powerful witness of these men and women, whose dedication to Christ continues to resonate long after their earthly journeys have ended.
A Community Gathering in Remembrance
Following the Mass, guests were welcomed to a light luncheon hosted by our Grief Care team, providing an opportunity for fellowship, remembrance, and shared stories. This gathering offered comfort and connection for those reflecting on the lives of loved ones and mentors who have gone before us.
Our Grief Care team was also available throughout the event to provide gentle pastoral support and guidance to anyone in need.
A Commitment to Ongoing Support
Catholic Cemeteries + Crematoria is committed to honouring the memory of our deceased clergy and religious each year, offering a sacred space for prayer and reflection. We are grateful to all who joined us for this special liturgy and to those who continue to support our mission of faith, remembrance, and community.
