Catholic Cemeteries & Crematoria (CCC) is committed to maintaining a respectful, safe, and well-kept environment across all our memorial parks. This includes regular maintenance activities such as mowing, garden upkeep and ornamentation control, as outlined in our Floral & Ornament Guide.
In addition to ensuring that cemeteries are well-kept, regular clean-ups ensure the removal of potential risks to both visitors and staff. CCC strives to provide families with reasonable notice before any clean-up activities. In accordance with the guidelines, signage is placed in affected areas ahead of scheduled maintenance.
Our teams work diligently to uphold the Cemetery Maintenance Standards across all sites. While enforcement of ornamentation policies may vary due to operational priorities, weather conditions, and other factors, we remain committed to ensuring all areas are maintained to a high standard.
The removal of ornamentation items is carried out with sensitivity, and we continue to refine our processes to balance cemetery upkeep with the needs of grieving families. Families are always welcome to retrieve personal items within the designated timeframe before clean-ups occur.
Although a sensitive task and one that the cemetery staff gain no satisfaction from performing, the practical reality is that all tributes will wither and at some point, need to be removed and disposed of by cemetery staff. It is an unfortunate task, but one that needs to be performed.
The removed items are temporarily relocated and stored, allowing families the opportunity to collect them. CCC understands the importance of these memorial tributes. The policy enables staff to maintain the cemetery grounds to a high standard, while providing a safe and harmonious environment for visitors and staff.
Whilst it is difficult to create a policy that meets everyone’s requirements, the goal is to provide fair guidelines that apply uniformly to everyone. CCC continuously reviews the landscaping and presentation of our memorial parks and welcomes feedback from all stakeholders.
With newer cemeteries like Macarthur Memorial Park serving as both a final resting place and recreational green space for the community, it is vital that standards are maintained for families and visitors using the park for reflection or recreational purposes.
